The MAVISSE care guide
Jewellery care
For the pieces you reach for.
A little care is part of the everyday ritual. Discover simple ways to clean, wear and store your jewellery, with advice for the details that make each piece different.

Start with your piece.
Materials and finishes vary across our collection. Check your product description and any care instructions supplied with it. For mixed-material designs, follow the advice for the most delicate component.
01 / Your everyday ritual
Small habits. Thoughtful care.
Put it on last
Let perfume, skincare and hairspray dry before putting on your jewellery. Take it off before changing clothes to help prevent snagging.
Know when to take it off
Remove jewellery before swimming, showering, exercise and household cleaning, unless the specific care instructions say otherwise. Protect delicate pieces from knocks and pulling.
Wipe after wear
Use a clean, soft, lint-free cloth to gently remove surface oils and marks. Avoid rubbing plated finishes firmly or using abrasive polishes.
Give each piece space
Use separate soft pouches or lined compartments. Keep chains untangled and prevent stones, clasps and metal surfaces from rubbing together.
02 / A gentle refresh
Keep your routine simple.
A soft cloth is a good starting point for everyday care. Check the finish, stones and settings before using water or any cleaning product.
Avoid toothpaste, abrasive powders and household cleaners. Do not use ultrasonic or steam cleaning at home unless a qualified jeweller has confirmed it is suitable for that exact piece.
Check first
Look for loose stones, a damaged clasp or a bent setting. If anything looks wrong, stop wearing the piece and ask us for advice before cleaning it.
Wipe lightly
Support the piece in your hand and use a soft, clean cloth with light pressure. Do not pull chains, scrub settings or try to polish away a worn surface layer.
Let it dry
If the approved care method involves moisture, let the piece dry fully before putting it away. Avoid hairdryers, radiators and direct heat.

03 / Follow the finish
Different details. Different care.
Use these notes for the materials listed on your product page. A gold or silver colour alone does not identify the metal or its finish.
Gold-plated & rhodium-plated pieces
Wipe gently with a soft, non-abrasive cloth. Avoid silver dips, abrasive polishing cloths and vigorous rubbing, which may affect the plating. Minimise exposure to moisture, cosmetics and chemicals. Follow this advice for plated silver as well as other plated base metals.
Unplated sterling silver
Silver can tarnish over time. Use a care product specifically suitable for sterling silver only when the piece is confirmed to be unplated and its stones or other details are compatible. If you are unsure about the finish, ask before polishing.
Stainless steel
For regular care, start with a soft cloth. If the instructions for that piece allow washing, use lukewarm water and mild soap, rinse and dry carefully. A steel base does not make plating, stones or decorative details suitable for soaking.
Pearls & mother-of-pearl
Wipe gently after wear. Keep these delicate surfaces away from perfume, harsh chemicals, steam and ultrasonic cleaners. Avoid soaking jewellery with glued or strung details. Store pearls in a soft, breathable pouch and away from excessive heat.
Stones, enamel & delicate settings
Start with a soft cloth and avoid knocks, pulling or scrubbing around settings. Suitable cleaning methods depend on the stone, its treatment and how it is set. Ask before using a cleaning solution if those details are unclear.
04 / Between wears
A place for every piece.
A little space helps keep chains, settings and surfaces protected, at home and when travelling.
- Fasten necklaces and bracelets before storing them separately to reduce tangling.
- Choose a lined jewellery box or individual soft pouches. Avoid leaving pieces loose in a handbag.
- Keep jewellery away from bathroom humidity, direct heat and prolonged sunlight. Let any damp piece dry before storing it.

Good to know
Your care questions.
Not sure which advice applies? Send us the product name or link and we can help you check.
Can I shower or swim in my jewellery?
Check the instructions for the exact design. Water resistance depends on the base metal, plating, stones and construction. Unless those instructions say otherwise, take the piece off before showering or swimming.
Can I sleep or exercise in my jewellery?
We recommend taking it off first. Chains and settings can catch, bend or experience pressure during sleep or exercise, while sweat and repeated rubbing can affect some finishes.
My jewellery got wet. What should I do?
Gently blot away moisture with a soft cloth and let the piece dry naturally before storing it. Do not scrub or use direct heat. If it has been exposed to pool water, salt water or a cleaning product, check its care instructions or contact us before further cleaning.
Why is the colour or finish changing?
Silver can tarnish and plated finishes may gradually wear, especially where they rub against skin, clothing or other jewellery. If a change is unexpected or you are concerned about a fault, contact us with the product name and details rather than trying an abrasive cleaner.
What if a clasp, chain or setting is damaged?
Stop wearing the piece to avoid losing it or causing further damage. Contact info@mavisse.co.uk with your order number and a description of the issue. A photograph may help us understand it. This care guide does not limit your statutory rights.
